Auto Union is one of the most prominent international car rental brands. To capture the rapidly growing commercial and utility vehicle market, their specialized sub-company launched Auto Union Van Rental.
Saikō was chosen as the dedicated technology partner to architect, develop, and deploy a bespoke, high-concurrency booking platform from the ground up. Utilizing a robust Symfony backend, a reactive Vue.js frontend, and a heavily optimized MariaDB database, this project stands as a prime example of our enterprise-level tailor-made software development capabilities, delivering a seamless reservation engine tailored specifically to the complex logistical workflows of commercial fleet rentals.
The Challenge
Unlike leisure car rentals, commercial and passenger van rentals operate on highly volatile business logic. The platform needed to overcome several enterprise-level challenges:

Our Solution
1. Decoupled Symfony & MariaDB Core Engine
We designed the core application layer using the Symfony framework to enforce strict corporate security standards, dependency injection, and clean MVC separation, positioning this system among the most secure and scalable custom web applications and platforms in the automotive rental sector.
- Optimized MariaDB Schema: We engineered custom database tables structured to query massive vehicle availability datasets instantly without server lag.
- Custom Period-Based Pricing Matrix: Instead of restrictive linear rates, we built an administrative engine allowing managers to define custom pricing rules for specific date ranges, automatically compounding discounts based on the length of the rental (e.g., 1-3 days, 4-7 days, 30+ days). While this logic is currently rule-based, the structural data mapping is fully primed to feed predictive AI and machine learning solutions down the line to automate automated yield forecasting.
2. Reactive Frontend via Vue.js & UIkit
To drive maximum conversion rates and lower drop-offs during the booking process, we built an instantaneous, mobile-first single-page checkout flow.
- Vue.js State Management: The booking engine computes prices, extra insurance costs, and package add-ons in real-time on the client side, eliminating frustrating page-reload delays and matching the highly responsive user experience usually reserved for native mobile and desktop apps.
- Fluid Layouts via UIkit: Leveraging the lightweight utility of UIkit, we developed a modern, high-speed fleet presentation grid that cleanly maps vehicle capacities, payload limits, and key specifications across all responsive viewports.
3. Granular Insurance & Extras Subsystems
We developed a modular backend architecture to manage the platform’s commercial upsell flows:

Dynamic Insurance Tiers: Allows the integration of custom insurance models (e.g., CDW, FDW, Theft Protection) with variable deductibles depending on the vehicle class selected.

Localized Add-ons: Gives administrators the ability to attach specific extra equipment packages (e.g., GPS navigation, additional drivers, commercial dollies) with independent per-day or fixed-rate calculations.
